About Paola and living in Finland

I was born and raised in Italy, as was my husband, and we moved to Finland 7 years ago. Our daughter was born here in 2013 and our son, born in 2015, joined us from India through international adoption last February.

We are a multicultural and bilingual family. Our girl is fluent both in Finnish and Italian, while our son now speaks Italian and is learning his first Finnish words. We love reading as a family and we do it daily. The kids have a rich book collection in Italian, Finnish, and English (even though I read those in Italian, translating on the go). We use books as entertainment, but also for an educational purpose, both to provide them with a rich vocabulary and to openly talk about important issues such as feelings, adoption, diversity, and so on. We were gifted with amazing public library services and we visit the library weekly, both to take part into cultural events for families, as well as borrowing new books (I always have about 20 in my house at any time!).
