Hello dearie, sorry I’ve been AWOL

Phewwww time sure has flown so quickly. What have you been up to? Sorry I’ve been AWOL, life got in the way. Amongst a myriad of other things, my daughter was having recurring tonsillitis for a good few weeks. She had to have three courses of antibiotics and the doctors were considering a tonsillectomy. Thankfully, my little trooper is a fighter and thank God she’s made a 99% recovery. The 1% is that her lymph nodes opted to keep some relics of the infection but it’s nothing to worry about, so technically, that’s a 100% recovery, isn’t it?!

To help me maintain my sanity in the most difficult of times, I tried gardening and actually love it. When I wake up in the morning, some mornings, I go into my garden, take a deep breath and savour the quietness before dealing with all that life would throw at me that day.

Before I started my blog, I used to be a healthcare professional. I tried to go back to it and got to understand why some people see parenthood as a barrier to women progressing in their career. The first place I considered applying to said: “well you have been off work for a while, so we don’t know if you can do the job”. They wanted to use my time away to pay me what a new graduate would earn. That would have been a 40% pay cut for me. Then the government introduced something called IR35, which meant that self-employed folks (which I was) were financially worse off.

Towards the end of July this year, I found the haze in my head clearing and saw myself crawling back to writing. I actually was hired by a company to do some freelance medical writing for them. I was so busy with all life was throwing my way that I never considered making a career out of my writing. Now it is an avenue that I really want to pursue.

Thanks for sticking with me, I will endeavour to not go AWOL again but I’m making no promises.

We did have the terrible twos but OMG my little human is a little madam these days. She sure keeps me on my toes and when I think back at some things she does, I have this massive smile on my face. Her favourite word these days is WHY???

Anyhoos, I will be updating you as the days go by. Once I have sorted myself a bit better, I will be restarting my podcast.

I have missed blogging so much, I have a big grin on my face just typing this post.

So dearie, what’s been going on with you? Did you notice I’ve been AWOL?

PS: I’ve updated my About Segilola Salami page, please click here to check it out. If you know anyone looking for a freelance writer, proofreader, editor etc, please send them my way. This mom has to feed her child 😉
