Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer
Hey guys! Maymunah here!
Here’s a new book for you: Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer. And oh my gosh, I cannot tell you enough how highly I think of this book.
Firstly, the author. His name is pronounced “Owen” as it kindly mentions at the back of the book. He’s an Irish author and he’s written a few other books, like Skyman. But he is definitely most famous for his Artemis Fowl series.
The story follows a young boy, who is too intelligent for his own good. He is also very, very rich and guess what else?
He’s a criminal mastermind!
Artemis’s new goal is to restore his family’s status to billionaire and to do this, he researches the fairy People who live in an underground haven who are rich with treasure. He kidnaps Captain Holly Short, a pixie and holds her ransom for 24 carat gold.
The reason I loved this book so much is because it’s written from a criminal’s point of view, and he’s not the average villain. He knows he’s bad, but he doesn’t really care. He’s also a very interesting character because he speaks in a very adult-like way. In other words, he is nothing like the twelve year old he is meant to be.
And Captain Holly? She’s one feisty pixie. For anyone who hates the namby-pamby stereotypical fairy, Holly has attitude and won’t let anyone, especially her human captor, win one over her. The other characters are all unique and very funny; they all have very well-developed characteristics.
Apparently, there is going to be a movie for Artemis Fowl. No casting, filming locations or any other details have been released as yet, except the director will be Kenneth Brannah and the screenplay is by Michael Goldenberg (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix) so fans are hoping it will be good.
I’d recommend this for ages 10+ because it’s quite a long book and I think only 10 year olds would really endeavour to finish it. But all in all, it’s a brilliant book and definitely worth a read.
Should you want to, you can get a copy of Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer on Amazon. I am optimistic you would like it 😀
