Book Reviews
Today on the show we discuss the importance (or not) of book reviews to an author. What can an author do to increase his/her chances of getting a review for his/her book? We also discuss a book called White Rabbit by Desiree Moodie.
To summarise, when asking for reviews, here’s what was said on the show:
It may sound really obvious but a lot of people don’t do this. When you are sending an email to anyone, most especially someone who doesn’t know you start off with a clear subject line. This would let the recipient know why he or she needs to read your email rather than spam it. Once the person opens your email, a simple greeting would do. When you see someone on the streets even if you don’t know the person but need to talk to the person, you say hello at least don’t you? Well do same in your emails. Follow on by saying how you got that person’s details before why you are writing to them. Then you can explain why that person should do whatever it is you are enquiring about, in this case, asking for reviews.
The Segilola Salami show is hosted by Segilola Salami who is also an author and self publishing strategist. Her latest book is called Yetunde: An Ode to My Mother
The show is about books, books and more books but specifically self published books. The show is in the format of a roundtable discussion. We give tips to help self published authors and discuss an indie book (like a book club).
Or better still, think of it as a group of book lovers having virtual coffee discussing books.
